While we openly invite participants aged 21 or older, it's essential to underscore that Breathwork, despite its numerous advantages, might not be suitable for everyone. Breathwork can elicit intense physical and emotional responses, so an open mind and earnest engagement in the experience are crucial. If you have health conditions or are on medication that could be exacerbated with intense breathing exercises, a consultation with your doctor prior to participation is advisable. Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have glaucoma, heart issues, severe mental illness, advanced osteoporosis, or have recently undergone major surgery are encouraged to abstain from this retreat. Susan Oubari is a renowned pioneer of Breathwork, earning global acclaim as a spiritual coach, Reiki master, and Breathwork teacher. Halfway through a 27-year career in the fashion industry, Susan faced burnout, which prompted her to explore the healing capacities of Reiki in 2005. This exploration became a personal enlightenment and a vital tool for handling the pressure of her demanding job which she continued alongside her personal growth journey.
In 2018 Susan bid farewell to the fashion world and introduced her revolutionary method, Breathe in Paris®, merging Breathwork, Reiki, mindfulness, and spiritual coaching. Susan’s innovative technique offers an extensive, transformative experience, enriched by her distinctive fusion of fashion industry knowledge and spiritual insights. Broadly speaking, Breathwork refers to any breathing exercise where conscious control of the breath aims to improve mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.
There are various forms of Breathwork in practice today, each presenting its own unique approach, blending age-old wisdom with modern understanding. The Breathe in Paris® method of Breathwork is called Two-Stage Pranayama, drawing influence from the consciousness-expanding era of the 1960s and 1970s. Originally conceived by psychiatrists in California to simulate the effects of LSD, this technique uses conscious connected mouth breathing in tandem with music to tap into non-ordinary states of consciousness, helping release deeply held emotions.
Engaging in deep mouth breathing during Breathwork leads to a shift in the gas composition of the blood, increasing oxygen levels while reducing carbon dioxide. This controlled hyperventilation can elicit unusual physical sensations such as tingling, cramping, shivering, and muscle spasms. Alongside these physiological changes, it is common for people to experience emotional releases through crying, hysterical laughter, or shouting, providing an outlet for suppressed thoughts and emotions.
