A corner of nature? La Rosière Lake
Hidden at the heart of a huge pine forest, this turquoise lake is breathtaking in its natural beauty. Make sure you cross the footbridge to see the best views of this superb setting.
A speciality? Beaufort cheese
Undoubtedly Savoie’s most delicious speciality, this hard cheese comes in three varieties: Winter Beaufort, Summer Beaufort and le Chalet des Alpages. Only the milk from Tarentaise and Abondance cows is used to make this delicacy – in the warmer weather you’ll see them grazing the mountains of Courchevel.
A flower? Edelweiss
In Courchevel, edelweiss flowers can be found at the top of La Dent du Villard and in certain spots in the national park of La Vanoise. Recognizable thanks to its star-shaped petals, this flower also has antioxidant qualities.
A date? 1946
In 1946 architects Laurent Chappis, Denys Pradelle and Jean-Marc Legrand started work on developing a new concept for living and leisure at an altitude of 1,850 metres. The architects’ innovative approach, which included the ski-in/ski-out format, laid the foundations for Courchevel’s future popularity.
A concept? Après-ski
Courchevel is the resort which put après-ski on the map. The area is renowned for its festive atmosphere thanks to the famous Folie Douce, as well as its numerous restaurants which transform into clubs after nightfall. An experience not to be missed!
A curiosity? The Altiport
Built in 1961 by Michel Ziegler, this mountain airfield lies at an altiude of 2,700m, making it the highest landing site in Europe. Snow is cleared from the runway all year round to welcome its high-flying guests.
A number? 2,738
Courchevel 1850 is the resort’s highest village, reaching an altitude of 2,738m at its peak. From here you can admire the spectacular view of Mont Blanc and the glaciers of La Vanoise.
A personality? Alexis Pinturault
Born in Savoie, Alexis Pinturault discovered his love of skiing at a very early age. Today he is one of France’s all-time most successful skiers, and is expected to win again at the 2023 World Championships when he will be skiing on home ground!
