Airelles - Courchevel

The Story of Les Airelles

Nestled in the heart of Courchevel 1850’s Jardin Alpin, Les Airelles stands as a testament to luxury, elegance, and timeless charm. First opened in 1990 by the pioneering Madame Raymonde Fenestraz, this Austro-Hungarian-inspired five-star hotel quickly became an iconic destination, renowned for its opulent design and unparalleled hospitality.

A vision realised: the birth of Les Airelles

In 1988, just before the Albertville Winter Olympics, Raymonde Fenestraz, a native of nearby Moutiers and a successful luxury real-estate entrepreneur, envisioned transforming a 1960s hotel into a majestic "snow castle."

Designed by the architect Richard Ferbach, Fenestraz’ vision was duly brought to life in a fairytale blend of Austro-Hungarian architectural elegance and modern luxury. Officially opening its doors in 1990, Les Airelles quickly garnered international acclaim during the 1992 Winter Olympics, serving as the headquarters of the Olympic committee and remaining the preferred retreat for dignitaries including Princess Anne of England and Prince Albert of Monaco.

Transformations and accolades

With her inimitable imagination and flair for innovation, Madame Fenestraz transformed Les Airelles – and Courchevel itself – into a premier luxury destination. In 2004 these efforts were recognised when she was awarded the Legion of Honour for her contributions to promoting Courchevel as a luxury resort.

The hotel's journey of excellence continued in 2007 as it changed ownership, marking the birth of the Airelles collection. The property was transformed into a sumptuous residence inspired by the Empress Sissi of Austria, with Christophe Tollemer leading the restoration project. With a rare empathy for the place and those who had passed through it, Christophe Tollemer succeeded in giving Les Airelles a grand and profoundly modern new breath of life, without abandoning anything from the past.

The pinnacle of luxury

Les Airelles' commitment to excellence was solidified in May 2011 when the hotel was awarded the prestigious "Palace" distinction, a title reserved only for the finest luxury hotels in France. This accolade, shared with only seven other hotels at that time, affirmed Les Airelles’ status as a beacon of luxury and elegance.

In 2021, Les Airelles joined the prestigious Comité Colbert association, aligning itself with France's most luxurious brands and cultural institutions, and continuing to promote and develop French savoir-faire and creativity. Today, Les Airelles remains a symbol of luxury and refinement. With its impeccable service and stunning surroundings, the iconic “snow castle” continues to enchant visitors, providing an unforgettable experience in the heart of Courchevel 1850.
