La Bastide, the soul of Provence

A true jewel of Provence, Airelles Gordes is at the heart of the historic village, in one of the most beautiful regions of France, the Luberon. Set up high in the cliff, the residence appears to be suspended, watching over the surrounding countryside.

Located high above Gordes, this stately home retains all its charms of yesteryear. The four buildings have been carefully renovated to preserve their authenticity. This Airelles hotel has large green terraces with views of the village and the surrounding mountains, from which you can admire the impressive vista of olive trees, vines and Provencal forests. From the hanging gardens, with their dry-stone walls and majestic cypress trees, look out over the historic village buildings and, in the distance, the curves of the Luberon Massif.

Considered one of the most beautiful villages in France, Gordes has inspired numerous artists who have left their mark in the winding lanes: Marc Chagall, Victor Vasarely, André Lhote and also Pol Mara. A history charged with nobility and art lingers in the buildings, from the medieval castle to the Saint-Firmin church, and in the village galleries. Certain places, such as the Village des Bories and Notre-Dame-de-Sénanque Abbey, bear witness to the cultural riches of Gordes. Its heritage and its exceptional location have made it an iconic Provencal village.

Exceptional natural heritage

Lavender fields in the Luberon

Between the vineyards, hills as far as the eye can see and century-old olive trees, the Luberon has a breath-taking natural history. At La Bastide, we offer many activities to help you explore this fascinating region: electric bike rides through lavender fields, wine tasting at an idyllic Luberon chateau, a trip in a hot air balloon, or a ride in a vintage 2CV through the plane tree-lined roads…everything is designed to help you make the most of this magnificent area!

Traditional artisanal savoir-faire

Landscapes of Roussillon and its ochre earth

Beyond the richness of its natural heritage, Marcel Pagnol’s region is also home to artisanal savoir-faire. Here, traditional methods have been preserved, and are an integral part of the area’s history. The surrounding villages are bursting with charm, especially for lovers of beautiful stonework. Places you absolutely must not miss in the region: Roussillon and its ochre earth, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue with 300 art and antique shops, the mysterious fountain at Fontaine de Vaucluse, and the 13th century fortress at Oppède-le-Vieux.

La Bastide is an exceptional place in the heart of the Luberon, where you can relax in absolute tranquillity with a stunning view over a typical Provencal landscape, with nothing to disturb you except the cicadas’ song.
