The Annonciade Museum, an exhibition of art by some of the biggest names of the 20th century.
During your stay at Château de La Messardière, make the most of Saint-Tropez’s charm by planning an exclusive tour of the Annonciade Museum. You’ll see a large collection of fauvist, pointillist and Nabis’ work, created between 1890 and 1950. Most of the artists exhibiting here ‘made their work a reflection on colour while also remaining true to reality’.

The artists of the time came to the area for inspiration, seduced by the golden light of the Provencal countryside and the gentle way of life. Paul Signac was first to arrive and bought a house to convert into his Saint-Tropez studio, La Hune. This private address was only known to his friends at the time; Henri Matisse, André Derain and Albert Marquet came to visit him regularly. Full of history, La Hune is today one of the historic monuments of the region.

The Annonciade Museum now has more than 20 internationally famous paintings. Visit a 16th century chapel transformed into a museum in Saint-Tropez

Saint-Tropez, the jewel of the French Riviera, was an avant-garde artists’ hangout before becoming the favoured upscale destination for holidaymakers.

The Annonciade Museum is at the heart of the village in an iconic place, a few minutes’ walk from the famous Place des Lices. Created in 1922, this art museum was set up in a former chapel and kept its previous name. Built around 1510 by the Pénitents Blancs monks, the Notre-Dame de l’Annonciade Chapel was sold off during the French Revolution. In 1950, George Gramont and his architect Louis Süe decided to turn it into a museum to display his personal works of arts, before opening the doors to the public five years later.

Today, the Annonciade Museum is known by art historians all over the world. A museum of modern art, it is full of some of the great French paintings of recent times. Browse with your family and experience the richness and calm of the place.
