Hot Spots in Val d'Isère
Val d’Isère offers so much more than great slopes. Here is a roundup of the must-sees and dos this season.
First Snow Critérium
This world-famous alpine skiing competition takes place annually at Val d’Isère. This event traditionally marks the beginning of the alpine skiing season in Europe, attracting the world’s top skiers.
We love: gathering from 9 to 17 December to watch the competition and celebrating the medals.
Pisaillas Glacier
At an altitude of 3140 metres, on the edge of the Vanoise National Park and near Italy’s Grand Paradiso Park, the Pisaillas Glacier is the highest point of Val d’Isère’s ski area. Here, one can even ski in summer, but it’s in winter that you can enjoy the best views of this snowy realm.
We love: the feeling of skiing on top of the world.
Ice Diving in Lake Tignes
This high-altitude lake becomes a vast frozen expanse in the heart of winter. One to two metres thick, the ice constantly forms and deforms, creating a magnificent natural spectacle. Diving under the ice with an experienced instructor is a surreal experience, open to all.
We love: the night dive, a unique and dreamlike experience.
Lost Village of Val d’Isère
This isn’t a ghost town but rather a play and relaxation area in the larch forest of Étroits. Accessed on skis, you then walk along suspended walkways in the trees. It’s a fun way to explore this pristine natural environment.
We love: taking a break in one of the treehouses hidden amongst the branches.
Manchet Valley
A walker’s and cross-country skier’s paradise, the valley unfolds in a splendid natural setting. The cross-country ski trails stretch to the gates of the Vanoise National Park. The 1.5km pedestrian loop starts from the heart of the village of Joseray and leads into the valley, perfect for a serene family stroll.
We love: indulging in a gourmet break at the restaurant Au bout du monde.
Mountain Shaker in Tignes
A major sporting event of the season, the Mountain Shaker will take place from 9th to 16th March 2024. All snow sports will be represented, from skateboarding to skiing, with professional competitions like the Slopestyle Ski World Cup, and fun challenges open to all.
We love: the electric atmosphere that fills the partner villages.
