Villa Baulieu

Discover the Tuscan-inspired elegance of Villa Baulieu in Provence's Pays d'Aix, where vast vineyards and immaculate gardens frame stunning views of the Alpilles and Sainte-Victoire mountains. This picturesque retreat offers tranquillity and a deep connection with the rich Provençal landscape that continues a centuries-old tradition of viticulture and hospitality.

The timeless Villa Baulieu

Built in the 17th century, Villa Baulieu was designed as a grand family estate. The current Italian-style château, built on its enduring basaltic foundations, dates back to renovations in the 18th century by architect Vallon, with the core structure remaining unchanged since 1805.

DIVE INTO THE STORY

Volcanic terroir & time-honoured traditions

Nestled inside the crater of Provence’s only volcano, Villa Baulieu is at the centre of wine production that dates back to over 2,000 years. The estate's unique geography and excellent soil quality are perfect for cultivating wines with significant ageing potential.

Beyond its vineyards, the estate features a truffle grove with 800 trees, where specially trained Border Collies assist in harvesting prized Tuber melanosporum truffles. Additionally, in partnership with the French Apicology Observatory, Villa Baulieu nurtures a hundred beehives, producing rich, polyfloral honey from the diverse flora, including lavender and thyme.

Respect for the terroir is key to all agricultural activities: Villa Baulieu champions traditional farming with a focus on integrated agriculture. This method protects the environment and supports animal well-being by carefully managing inputs, ensuring a sustainable and harmonious cultivation process.
